On this cooler August day, I layered up with denim over a plaid woven. Denim jackets have been a big trend this year, but I opted for a denim shirt instead. It adds another layer without too much bulk. The tie I’m wearing, courtesy of Pocket Square Clothing, is a great floral print. The wood tie bar, courtesy of DiBi Ties, is a new take on the classic clip. The sneaker bottom on the Lunargrands means I’ll be ready for whatever is thrown at me.

Back to business today, so it’s high time to throw on some neckwear. This fun, printed tie comes courtesy of Mai-Tie. The white and the navy of the tie is complemented by the same colors in the plaid shirt, and I always love a good nautical theme. The third color is the ocean blue which is copied in the chinos as well.

Summer is a fleeting season. Sure, every season has it’s turn, but what time of the year is more longed for? The late sunset, the embrace of nature; It’s so important that you take advantage of the weather, both in your daily life and your wardrobe. I love tweeds and a delicious pumpkin spice latte, don’t get me wrong. But today was the perfect opportunity to wear bright colors and spend the day in Brooklyn.

Williamsburg was our destination. Calling to us was the foodie joints and the awesome menswear spots. Here, in front of the Williamsburg Bridge, we stopped to take a few shots. The cooler day earlier in the week was a reality check that summer wouldn’t last forever, so I donned a bright gingham short sleeve shirt. As has been my m.o. for the past few days, the fitted shirt combines the perfect sleeve length for the warm weather with the right fit so as not to appear as part of I.T. The aqua lightweight chinos were the best breathable layer, and I loved how it’s shade matched the gingham. A pair of comfortable suede bucks and I was ready to explore the city.

Check out some shots of New York below.

What inspires the color choices you make in your wardrobe? Is it the color scheme in the store you bought it at? Do you wear oranges and reds in the fall that mimic changes in nature?

I like to be inspired in different ways to chose the hues of the day. Art can sometimes be a powerful tool in deciding what shade to use. Pop art, like that of Andy Warhol, uses bold color schemes and these alternative pairings really stand out in both the art and fashion world. Whether your palette involves chinos and ties or brush and canvas, try to be inspired by the nontraditional.

I don’t always wear socks, but when I do, they’re going to be bright and floral print. Sometimes the details can add more appeal than other elements. A somewhat simple mix for me, the vibrant lightweight shirt and the chinos are great for a summer night. The fun socks just add a bit of panache to the whole look.

Dressing up madras today with a plaid shirt and a pastel purple blazer. Summer is tough when trying to look professional but still keeping your cool. The lightweight shirt means I won’t sweat to death, and the cuffed up chinos allow for a little ventilation. I kept the hues in light chalky colors so even in the mid-90’s the sun won’t be a killer.

I decided to take my normal urban life to the mountains today and take a hike into the Ramapo Mountains. It was so serene in this quiet haven with the only loudness coming from the bright orange I wore. I finally had to grab a Herschel backpack and I took the kitchen sink with me and hit “the Rez”, as it is affectionately called. Happy trails!

Nothing screams summer more to me than a nautical-inspired outfit. And while I won’t be sailing on this beautiful day, I opted for a bright shade of blue chinos, reminiscent of the ocean. With the striped shawl-collar cardigan, I brought in neutrals to break up the vibrant hue. The plaid tie brings together the browns and blues from the rest of the ensemble too.

Minty fresh on this rainy day. As you have seen in my posting history, I really love to wear colored chinos. It’s nice to break up the denim hegemony in the wardrobe. If you’re not used to brighter shades, opt for a mint like the one I’m wearing today. It’s a lighter hue that’s not overly bright. I added a madras, lightweight woven since it has a similar check as the pants. I like how navy and mint play together as well. Thus, I added the toggle cotton sweater, which brought some warmth too. Only if you look closely can you see the print, but the camo desert boots add some fun on this dreary day.

This warm spring day meant chinos and a bright gingham shirt to add some color. I’ve been on quite a green kick as of late. Speaking of green kicks, the Sperry kicks in bright green take the traditional boat shoe and add a pop. The tie had a similar color, matching it’s stripe to the shirt. The grey from the tie is duplicated with the chinos and the watch strap as well. A cuff on the chinos and it’s the perfect spring look!
